Widener Runs Away From LVC

How It Happened
CHESTER, Pa. – Widener University netted nine second-period goals to power itself past Lebanon Valley by a 21-5 score on Saturday afternoon in the Flying Dutchmen's 2021 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth opener. LVC fell to 3-1, 0-1 MACC and the Pride improved to 3-1, 2-1 MACC.
 
Widener got off to a hot start and netted the game's first two goals at 9:05 and 7:47 of the opening period. LVC fought back and answered with two unassisted goals from Jake Bollinger and Michael Fisher, though, to even the game at 2-2 in the final minutes of the opening quarter.
 
The Pride put together a huge second-quarter and scored nine in the period. Carson Frey and Fisher each scored goals, but after Widener's offensive explosion, the Pride took an 11-5 lead into halftime.
 
LVC was unable to generate much offense in the second half while Widener's potent offense continued to click on all cylinders. Overall, the home team netted six in the third and four more in the last quarter to take the victory at 21-5.
 
Inside the Numbers
 - Michael Fisher ended with two goals on five shots.
 - Carson Frey, Jake Bollinger, and Paul Keesler each scored a goal for the Dutchmen.
 - Nick Serrano suffered the loss in net despite making 15 saves.
 - Luke Tamberino, Ben Weathersby, Sam Loyne, and Nick Coyne each scooped up three ground balls, while Tamberino caused a pair of turnovers.
 - Connor Heisman guided Widener's offense with five goals and three helpers.
 - The Pride's Matt Buckley and Nick Diiorio each recorded a hat trick.
 - Widener let off 57 shots compared to LVC's 25.
 - LVC went 20-for-23 in clears and the Pride went 23-for-26.
 - The Pride also led in total ground balls (51-20) and faceoffs (23-6).
 
Who's Next?
Conference action continues for LVC on Wednesday, March 24, when the Dutchmen head to Reading for a 4 p.m. game against Albright.
