How It Happened
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten during the non-conference slate of their season as they held off a furious Lycoming comeback to defeat the Warriors 13-12 on Wednesday afternoon. LVC improves to 3-0 with the win while Lycoming drops to 0-1.
The LVC offense would get on the board first with a pair of goals in the opening period.
Evan Federowicz and
Alex Kiviniemi each would tally goals in the first quarter and the LVC defense that was stellar their last time out against FDU-Florham would continue their strong play by holding the Warriors scoreless in the first quarter. In the second,
Carson Frey would get on the board and LVC would push their lead out to three with 7:41 left before half. Lycoming would finally break the scoreless drought with 6:32 left in the half. The Dutchmen would put two more shots in the net before intermission and LVC led 5-1 at the break.
The third quarter too belonged to the Dutchmen as they continued to hold the Lycoming offense at check, allowing just one goal in the third stanza. LVC would net a trio of goals in the period, two of which coming from Kiviniemi. The Dutchmen would hold double-up the Warriors 8-4 with 15 minutes left to go.
Lycoming's offense caught fire in the final quarter as they scored eight goals, twice as many as they had in the first three periods, including a pair of 3-0 scoring runs in the final 7:22 of regulation. After the first of the two runs by the Warriors, Frey would net a pair goals in a 1:27 span to push LVC's lead back up to four at 13-9. Lycoming would score three goals in a 2:10 stretch to cut the lead to just one with 31 ticks remaining, but the Dutchmen would hold off the Warriors for the one-goal victory.

- Michael Fisher finished with a team high six points on a pair of goals and four assists.
- Carson Frey was the leading goal-scorer for the Dutchmen with four goals and also added one assist.
- Alex Kiviniemi netted a hat trick for the Dutchmen.
- Nick Serrano made 13 saves in net for the win.
- LVC held a 49-46 shot advantage despite Lycoming outshooting the Dutchmen 19-8 in the fourth quarter.
- The two teams combined for 10 penalties.
- LVC went 21-for-23 on clear attempts while Lycoming converted just 15 of their 22 clears.

The Dutchmen begin conference play their next time out when they travel to take on Widener University. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. this Saturday in Chester, Pa.
