How It Happened
GENEVA, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley dropped a 5-1 contest to Hobart on Friday night in non-conference men's ice hockey action. The game officially went down as an exhibition and did not affect the Flying Dutchmen's overall record or statistics.
Â
After neither team could find the back of the net in the opening period, the Statesmen, who were given the go-ahead to return to action by their conference earlier this week and finished last season as the No. 6 team in the country, finally broke through just 31 seconds into the second period when Ryan Lynch scored from TJ Schultz.
Â
Less than two minutes later, Hobart made it 2-0 off a tally from Zach Tyson, followed by Jake Gresh's goal just past the midway point of the second to put the Statesmen up 3-0, a lead they took heading into the third period.
Â
At the 7:20 mark of the third, Chase Bell put Hobart on top 4-0 with a power-play goal, but 2:23 later,
Phillip Shemyakin brought LVC to within three with a goal from
Danny Galvez and
Connor Matsinger. 18 seconds later, however, Hobart's Aaron Maguyon found the back of the net to put the home team back on top by four and the Statesmen hung on for the 5-1 win.
