How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team dropped a defensive battle to Stevenson 52-48 on Thursday evening. The Dutchmen fell to 2-7 while the Mustangs improved to 4-5. LVC celebrated Senior Night prior to the start of tonight's contest as they honored seniors
Amber Kintzer and
Emily Mealey.
It was the Dutchmen who came out strong on the offensive end to start the game. After Stevenson drilled a three-pointer seconds after the opening tip, LVC scored nine unanswered points and held the Mustangs scoreless for over five minutes. The Dutchmen would lead 13-12 after the opening period.
Allison Bimmer would open the second quarter with a three-ball, followed by a
Sofia Bowers layup and LVC matched their largest lead of the game at six, 18-12. The Mustangs would respond by finally clicking on offense as they closed the first half on a 14-5 run and led 26-23 at the break.
The Mustangs would continue their momentum from the end of the first half as they would push their lead out to double digits in the third quarter when Denia Campbell's jumper made the score 39-29. LVC would crawl back to a six-point deficit before a banked three-pointer from the right corner by Campbell at the buzzer would push the Mustang lead back out to nine.
LVC would continue to fight in the fourth as a 14-5 run of their own capped by an
Emily Mealey layup would tie the game up 47-47. The Dutchmen would go cold down the stretch as they were held without a field goal for the final 2:57 of the contest and Stevenson knocked down enough free throws to put the Dutchmen away 52-48.
Inside The Numbers
- Emily Mealey finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds for her 40th career double-double. She also now has 1,251 career points, moving into fifth all-time in program history.
- Kennedy Kuffa was the leading scorer for LVC with 13 points.
- Denia Campbell led the Mustang attack with 14 points. Olivia Coleman also brought down a game-high 15 rebounds.
- LVC shot 34.6% from the floor and Stevenson shot 33.3%.
- The Mustangs held a 14-8 advantage at the free throw line.
- Stevenson controlled the glass all night, outrebounding the Dutchmen 42-28.

The Dutchmen travel to take on these same Mustangs tomorrow night in the regular season finale. Tip is slated for 7 p.m. in Owings Mills, Md.
