How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. –
Riley Johnson netted the game-winning goal with 2:37 remaining in regulation to give Lebanon Valley's Men's Ice Hockey team a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Nazareth in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 1-0-0, 1-0-0 UCHC, while the Golden Flyers dropped to 0-1-0, 0-1-0 UCHC.
Â
With the game knotted at 2-2 late in the third period, LVC was down in Nazareth's zone looking to take the lead. At the 2:37 mark,
Darion Benchich delivered a beautiful feed to
Riley Johnson in front of the net, and Johnson buried it into the back of the net to give the Dutchmen a 3-2 lead. Later in the period, with 1:15 remaining, Nazarth pulled Raphael Provencher for the extra attacker and peppered
Aidan Richardson with shots, but the sophomore was there to make every save and
Connor Matsinger blocked the Golden Flyers' last attempted with a second left to seal LVC's 3-2 come-from-behind win.
Â
After neither team could find the back of the net in the first, Nazareth broke through just 34 seconds into the second period when Jackson Shanley netted a short-handed goal from Casey Kubara and Ean Mendeszoon for the 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, the Golden Flyers took a 2-0 lead when Mateo Capriotti netted a PP-goal. Just over five minutes later,
Blake Tosto scored his first collegiate goal with the Dutchmen on the man-advantage from Johnson and Benchich to cut into Nazareth's lead. In the third period, with four minutes remaining,
Max Loga's tally evened the game at 2-2 before Johnson scored the game winner a minute and 23 seconds later.
