W. Hoops Edges Widener in Conference Opener

CHESTER, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Women's Basketball used a big third quarter and 21 points from both Cristina Fernandez and Daelyn Stabler to propel themselves to a 67-61 win over Widener in the MAC Commonwealth opener on Wednesday night. The Dutchmen improve to 5-3, 1-0 MACC while the Pride drop to 4-3, 0-1 MACC.

How It Happened
  • The first two quarters was played close throughout with neither team able to put much distance between each other as the Pride would take a slim 30-29 lead into halftime.
  • The Dutchmen offense really came to life in the third quarter as LVC would pour in 23 points in the frame, outscoring Widener by 12 for the period. LVC finished the third with a 9-0 run, holding the Pride scoreless for the final 4:20 of the quarter and lead 52-41 with just ten minutes left to play.
  • In the fourth, Widener would claw their way back into the game with an 8-0 run of their own to pull them within four at 55-51 at the midway point of the period. Cristina Fernandez and Daelyn Stabler would score 11 of the final 12 points of the game for LVC and the Dutchmen would hold off a Widener rally to pick up the 67-61 win.
Inside The Numbers
  • Cristina Fernandez and Daelyn Stabler lead LVC with 21 points apiece, both career-highs. Fernandez also recorded her first career double-double after grabbing 10 rebounds.
  • Kennedy Kuffa pitched in 16 points and tallied five steals.
  • LVC was excellent at the line, finishing 21-for-26, while Widener was just 8-for-12.
  • The Dutchmen finished with 14 turnovers while forcing 19 miscues by the Pride.

The Dutchmen continue conference play their next time out as they wrap up their five-game road trip when they travel to take on York (Pa.) on Saturday. Tip-off in York, Pa. is scheduled for 1 p.m.
