ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Basketball team fell 84-69 to Haverford College in the 2021-22 season opener on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
- The Dutchmen started the first half quickly as they opened up a 10-3 lead following three-pointers by Luis Garcia and Ryan Harder. The Fords would respond however by going on an 11-2 run of their own to take their first lead at 14-12 with 11:38 left before half time.
- The Fords three-point barrage in the first half would start in the second half of the opening 20 minutes with Haverford knocking down 12 of their 21 attempts from beyond-the-arc as the Fords grew their lead out to 15 at 49-34 at intermission.
- LVC would start to chip away at the deficit early in the second half as the Dutchmen cut the Fords lead to seven after a Jevon Griffin three-pointer with 13:00 left in regulation.
- The deficit was just five for the Dutchmen at 60-55 before the Fords would go on another run, this one a 12-3 stretch to push their lead back out to double figures with just under for minutes to play. Haverford would not let LVC get back within single digits as LVC fell 84-69 in the opener.
Inside The Numbers
- Collin Jones led LVC with 18 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Payton Lewis added 11 points while Zach Tucker and Ryan Harder chipped in with 10 points. Tucker also added nine assists
- Haverford was led by Gabriel Franklin and Nicholas Stewart who finished with 23 and 19 points respectively. The two also combined to shoot 9-of-16 from three-point land.
- The Fords finished 16-for-34 (47.1%) from deep while the Dutchmen shot 11-for-21 (52.4%) from beyond-the-arc.
- The Fords outrebounded LVC by four, 33-29.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen return to the hardwood this weekend when they host their annual Rinso Marquette Tournament. LVC will play Delaware Valley in the semifinal round on Friday at 8 p.m. following the 6 p.m. matchup of Penn State Harrisburg vs. Muhlenberg.
