Neumann 3, Lebanon Valley 2
ASTON, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Ice Hockey team almost completed a comeback but fell just short in a 3-2 contest against Neumann in UCHC action on Saturday afternoon. LVC falls to 1-5, 0-4 UCHC while the Knights improve to 2-4, 1-2 UCHC.
How It Happened
- The first period was a defensive struggle on both sides of the ice as neither team's offense was able to generate a single goal. Each team had a power play chance in the opening 20 minutes but neither team was able to capitalize as the game remained scoreless headed to the first intermission.
- The Knights would break the scoreless tie just 2:11 into the second period when Nick Martino found the back of the net to give Neumann the lead. Later in the period, Neumann would take advantage of a man-up opportunity as Nate Dunning's goal for the Knights would double the advantage for Neumann. LVC would trail by a pair with just 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
- Just 3:11 in to the final stanza, Blake Tosto would find beat the Neumann netminder to cut the deficit in half and get the Dutchmen on the board. After over 13 minutes of scoreless action, the Knights would push their lead back out to two with just over three minutes left to play.
- Alex Borowiec would get a late score for the Dutchmen as LVC trailed again by just one but only had 22 seconds left to find an equalizer. LVC was unable to get that all-important goal to tie the game and the Dutchmen fell just short, 3-2.
Inside The Numbers
- Alex Borowiec recorded a pair of points on a goal and an assist and now has a team-leading seven points on the season.
- Blake Tosto notched his second goal of the season.
- Rais Francis recorded his first career point with an assist. Borowiec, Brad Viola, and Riley Johnson also recorded assists for the Dutchmen.
- Gabriel Pigeon made 21 saves in net for LVC.
- Both teams fired off 24 shots, Neumann blocked 10 shots and LVC blocked nine.
- Neumann was 1-for-6 on the power play while the Dutchmen were held scoreless in their two PP chances.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are back home their next time out as they take on UCHC and MAC foe No. 14 Wilkes University on Friday evening. Puck drop in Hersheypark Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
