How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Manhattanville College escaped Hersheypark Arena with a narrow 3-2 victory over Lebanon Valley on Friday evening in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Men's Ice Hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen slipped to 1-4, 0-3 UCHC, while the Valiants jumped to 2-2, 2-1 UCHC.
LVC took a 1-0 lead near the midway point of the opening period off
Chris Mingus' goal from
Max Loga and
Mac Diver. Just over four minutes later, however, James Gregory answered for Manhattanville with a goal from Niko Happo and Mason Emoff to even the game at 1-1. Then, just over two minutes later, the Valiants netted a power-play tally when AJ Bella's shot from the point found the back of the net, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead after one period of action.
Just past the midway point of the second period with the Dutchmen on the penalty kill,
Mason Proskin stole the puck from a defender and scored an unassisted goal on a breakaway to tie the contest at 2-2.
Manhattanville again had an answer, as Emoff scored a shorthanded goal with seven minutes to go in the second, putting his squad back on top at 3-2.
Late in the third with LVC on the power play,
Gabriel Pigeon was pulled for an extra skater. The Dutchmen had two key scoring chances, but the Valiants' Tyler Roy came up with two acrobatic saves, allowing Manhattanville to escape with the narrow 3-2 victory.
