How It Happened
GRANTHAM, Pa. – A goal by Messiah University in the 82nd minute proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon as Lebanon Valley's Women's Soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 game to the Falcons in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth action. The Dutchmen fell to 4-6-1, 2-1-0 MACC, while Messiah improved to 8-2-1, 3-0-0 MACC.
 
In the 82nd minute with the scored tied at 0-0, the Falcons' Kristina Akselsen broke the tie off an assist from Thea Neimond to give the home team the 1-0 lead. Messiah limited LVC's scoring chances for much of the game, and in the final minutes of action, the Dutchmen were unable to even the score and fell 1-0.
 
In the opening half, Tylee Stauffer saw a scoring opportunity, but the Falcons' Lydia Watkins was there to make the save in the bottom right half of the goal. Then, in the second half, in the 61st minute, Emma Houck had a good look, but Watkins was again there for the save to keep the game scoreless until Messiah scored the eventual game-winner 20 minutes later.
 
Inside the Numbers

• Jocelyn Umana made five saves between the pipes for LVC.
• Houck finished with two shots, while Reagan McCarty, Angela Strock, and Stauffer each added a shot.
• Messiah outshot LVC 20-5.
• The Falcons also led in corner kicks at 8-1.
