How It Happened
GRANTHAM, Pa. – No. 7 Messiah University netted four unanswered goals and took down Lebanon Valley 4-1 on Saturday night in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Men's Soccer action. The Flying Dutchmen dropped to 9-2, 2-1 MACC and the Falcons jumped to 9-0-2, 3-0-0 MACC.
LVC got on the board first when
Aaron Weitzel scored his third goal of the season off an assist from
Zach Reed in the 10th minute. Later, in the 24th minute, Messiah responded when Trevor Goodling scored his third of the season off an assist from Jarec Morlote to even the game at 1-1.
Soon after, in the 28th minute, the Falcons took the lead when Jake Lent-Koop scored from Luke Brautigam and Grant Johnson. Messiah continued its flurry of scoring opportunities and in the 38th minute, the home team made it a 3-1 game thanks to Stefan Letizel's fourth goal of the season to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead at halftime.
In the early going of the second half, the Dutchmen saw some chances but were unable to convert. Then, in the 74th minute, the Falcons put the game out of reach when Leitzel scored his second of the game to make it a 4-1 game.
Inside the Numbers
- Charlie McCormick led in shots on goal for LVC with two, while Weitzel, Lucas Strange, and Anderson Velozwong each tallied one.
- Sean Quirk kept the Dutchmen within striking distance between the pipes and made an impressive 11 saves.
- Messiah led in total shots at 28-8 and shots on goal at 16-5.
- The Falcons had nine corner kicks and held LVC with a corner-kick opportunity.
Who's Next?
LVC looks to get back on track this Wednesday, Oct. 13, when the Dutchmen host Eastern University at 4 p.m. on Herbert Field.
