How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Two first-half goals powered Eastern University to a narrow 2-1 win over Lebanon Valley on Wednesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer action. The Flying Dutchmen slipped to 9-3, 2-2 MACC, while the Eagles improved to 8-3-2, 2-2 MACC.
First Half
- In the ninth minute of action, Drew Johnson controlled the ball up field and Sean Quirk ran up to try to corral the ball, but Johnson made a move and let off a long shot that found the back of the net to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.
- Later, in the 30th minute, Derek Buhrman sent in a pass from the left and Ryan Jammes hit a nifty shot that curled off his right foot and into the back of the net to make it a 2-0 game. That score stood up at halftime despite some LVC scoring chances down the stretch.
Second Half
- In the second half, the Dutchmen continued to apply pressure, but had nothing to show for it. In the 77th minute, Zach Reed had a great chance to bring LVC to within one, but his hard shot hit the crossbar and Eastern stayed ahead by two.
- Then, in the 83rd minute, the Dutchmen finally broke through when Josh Kline crossed the ball from the left into the box and Anderson Velozwong controlled it and scored, bringing LVC to within a goal late in the match. Velozwong say another solid chance in the 87th minute, but his header shot was saved and the Eagles escaped Annville with the narrow win.
