VB Outlasts Blazers

Lebanon Valley 3, Hood 2 (25-16, 25-13, 23-25, 14-25, 15-8)
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley Volleyball team battled for a five-set win over Hood College in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday evening. The Dutchmen improve to 8-6, 2-2 MACC while the Blazers fall to 3-10, 0-4 MACC.

How It Happened
  • In the opening set, both teams would trade runs as the set was tight throughout with LVC holding a slim 18-16 lead. The Dutchmen would run away in the first set winning the final seven points to take the opener 25-16.
  • The Dutchmen would control the second set as the jumped out to an early 8-4 lead. LVC would rattle off six straight points to balloon their lead to nine later in the set at 15-6. The lead wouldn't get closer than seven for the remainder of the set as the Dutchmen won the second set 25-13 to grab a commanding 2-0 overall advantage.
  • The Blazers would fight back in the third set after falling behind 8-4 quickly. Hood would tally seven straight points to pull ahead 11-8. The Dutchmen would respond with a five-point run of their own to retake the lead 13-11. With their backs against the wall, the Blazers won the final four points of the set to win 25-23 and force a fourth frame.
  • In the fourth set, the Blazers rattled off 10 of 11 points and held a commanding 19-8 lead late in the set. The Dutchmen would get no closer than nine points and fell 25-14 to send the match to a decisive fifth set.
  • Hood held a 7-4 lead in the fifth set before the Dutchmen would catch fire and take the next eight points to lead 12-7. After a Hood score, LVC won the final three points and finished off Hood 15-8 and 3-2 overall.
Inside The Numbers
  • Reily Shelly led all players with a season-best 20 kills. Mikiah Sangrey added 14 kills and Olivia Nace chipped in with eight.
  • Ali Whitworth tallied 42 assists, which tied her career-high she set early this year against Penn State Berks.
  • Kasey Thomas finished with a game-high 27 digs for the Dutchmen.
  • LVC finished with a .232 attack percentage while Hood hit at just a .071 clip.
  • LVC held an 8-4 advantage in blocks.
  • Both teams finished with seven aces.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are off this weekend before continuing conference play next Tuesday when they travel to take on conference newcomer York (Pa.). Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in York, Pa.
