York (Pa.) def. Lebanon Valley 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-13)
YORK, Pa. – York College of Pa. overcame a 2-1 deficit and narrowly defeated Lebanon Valley 3-2 on Tuesday evening in MAC Commonwealth Volleyball action. The Flying Dutchmen slipped to 8-7, 2-3 MACC, while the Spartans improved to 12-6, 5-1 MACC.
1st Set
- The opening set was close early on with the home team up 9-8, but LVC rattled off four consecutive points to take a 12-9 advantage.
- York responded with four straight points of their own to go up 13-12, but another four-point spurt by the Dutchmen put them ahead 16-13.
- LVC continued to hold a narrow lead, however with the Dutchmen up 22-20, the Spartans scored four straight to go up 24-22. Mikiah Sangrey halted the run with a kill, but York's Briyana Shepard finished off the set with a kill to give York the 25-23 first-set win.
2nd Set
- With the second set knotted at 10-10, the Dutchmen went on an impressive 8-0 run to take a commanding 18-10 lead in the set.
- Later in the frame, the home squad got to within five at 19-14, but a Grace Powell kill, a York attack error, and a Sangrey kill put the Dutchmen up 22-14, as LVC went on to take the second set 25-20 to even the match at 1-1.
3rd Set
- In the third, neither team was able to pull away and the set was tight throughout. LVC was up 21-19 when the Dutchmen earned three consecutive points and eventually won the set 25-20 to go up two sets to one over York.
4th Set
- The Spartans didn't go away quietly and in the fourth, with York on top 10-9, the Spartans rattled off five straight points to take a 15-9 advantage.
- LVC got to within three at 19-16, but York fended off the Dutchmen down the stretch and won the fourth at 25-19 to send the match to a five and deciding set.
5th Set
- York opened up the fifth set with four straight points, but an Olivia Nace kill stopped the bleeding.
- The Dutchmen hung in and stayed with striking distance, as LVC scored three straight down 11-7 to come to within a point at 11-10, but York got a kill from Tyler Williams to go up by two at 12-10.
- Then, with LVC down 14-11, Powell got a kill, followed by a York attack error, bringing the visiting Dutchmen to within one at 14-13, but the Spartans were able to finish off LVC with a kill from Claire Shorb to win the fifth set 15-13 and the match at 3-2.
Inside the Numbers
- Reily Shelly finished with a match-high 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .378%.
- Sangrey went for 16 kills and 15 digs.
- Robyn Stepler had five kills and nine digs.
- Ali Whitworth registered 36 assists and eight digs.
- Kasey Thomas and Julia Rill recorded 11 digs apiece.
- Tyler Williams led York's offense with 14 kills.

The Dutchmen return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 20, when LVC hosts MAC foe Widener at 7 p.m. inside Sorrentino Gymnasium.
