How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Abbie Keath's third-quarter goal proved to be all Lebanon Valley needed in its 1-0 shutout victory over Juniata College on Wednesday night in non-conference field hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 4-8, while the Eagles dropped to 2-10.
Â
First Quarter
- LVC saw two great opportunities to score in the opening period, as the Dutchmen were awarded a pair of penalty strokes but couldn't convert. Danielle Alba's penalty stroke sailed high, while Emily Kline's attempt with two minutes left was saved by Juniata's Nicole Piccioni to keep the game scoreless heading into the second.
Second Quarter
- The Eagles controlled the action in the second quarter and generated a pair of penalty corners, but Corinne Kearney came up big for LVC and made two saves to keep the game tied going into halftime.
Third Quarter
- Just under eight minutes into the third, Hannah Shirey sent a ball into the box that was corralled by Keath and beat Piccioni to the right side to break the 0-0 tie and give the Dutchmen the advantage at 1-0.
- LVC continued to pepper Piccioni with shots in the period, but she stood tall and the Dutchmen were clinging to a one-goal lead at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- LVC kept its momentum going into the fourth and had numerous opportunities to go up 2-0, but Piccioni made three big saves to keep it a one-goal game. Then, with 1:09 left, Juniata made the rare move to pull its goalie, but the Dutchmen were able to hold off the Eagles and preserve the 1-0 shutout-victory.
