SUNY Cortland 6, Lebanon Valley 4
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Ice Hockey team fell 6-4 in a high-scoring affair at SUNY Cortland in both teams' season-opening match. The Dutchmen are 0-1 and the Red Dragons improve to 1-0.
How It Happened
- The Red Dragons would get on the board first with a pair of goals just 4:20 apart around the midway point of the opening period. With the Dutchmen trailing 2-0, Chris Mingus cut the deficit in half at the 13:08 mark of the first period. LVC would trail by that 2-1 score headed into the first intermission.
- In the second, Cortland came out and pushed their lead back up to two just 45 ticks into the period. The Red Dragons would extend their lead to three just 3:15 later with a short-handed tally.
- Cade Freer would record his first of two goals at the 8:14 mark of the second period to pull the Dutchmen back within two. Cortland would respond quickly however and led 5-2 after 40 minutes of action.
- After a slow start of the third frame, the Dutchmen would get into a rhythm offensively netting a pair of goals late in the period. Freer would tally his second goal at the 14:46 mark before a power play goal by Blake Tosto with 1:49 remaining in regulation would pull LVC to within one. Cortland would add an empty-netter with just over a minute to go to down the Dutchmen 6-4.
Inside The Numbers
- Cade Freer scored a pair of goals in his first career game along with Chris Mingus who also found the back of the net in his Dutchmen debut.
- Blake Tosto added the first PP goal of the season for LVC.
- Cortland's Nick Grupp tallied two goals for the Red Dragons.
- Cortland outshot LVC 45-30 for the contest.
- The two teams combined for eight penalties, three against LVC and five on Cortland.
- LVC lost in the faceoff battle by a slim 39-36 margin.

The Dutchmen will take on Morrisville State tomorrow in their home opener. Puck drop is slated for 4 p.m. in Hersheypark Arena.
