SUNY Cortland 6, Lebanon Valley 4

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Lebanon Valley Men's Ice Hockey team fell 6-4 in a high-scoring affair at SUNY Cortland in both teams' season-opening match. The Dutchmen are 0-1 and the Red Dragons improve to 1-0.

How It Happened
  • The Red Dragons would get on the board first with a pair of goals just 4:20 apart around the midway point of the opening period. With the Dutchmen trailing 2-0, Chris Mingus cut the deficit in half at the 13:08 mark of the first period. LVC would trail by that 2-1 score headed into the first intermission.
  • In the second, Cortland came out and pushed their lead back up to two just 45 ticks into the period. The Red Dragons would extend their lead to three just 3:15 later with a short-handed tally.
  • Cade Freer would record his first of two goals at the 8:14 mark of the second period to pull the Dutchmen back within two. Cortland would respond quickly however and led 5-2 after 40 minutes of action.
  • After a slow start of the third frame, the Dutchmen would get into a rhythm offensively netting a pair of goals late in the period. Freer would tally his second goal at the 14:46 mark before a power play goal by Blake Tosto with 1:49 remaining in regulation would pull LVC to within one. Cortland would add an empty-netter with just over a minute to go to down the Dutchmen 6-4.
