What You Need to Know
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's offense was held scoreless in the second half and a late touchdown put away the Dutchmen at Wilkes 30-20 in a tough road conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen fall to 3-4, 2-3 MAC on the season while the Colonels improve to 6-1, 5-1 MAC.
1st Quarter
- To start the game, LVC was held to a three-and-out on their opening possession before Wilkes would use a strong rushing attack to find the end zone the first time they had the ball. Wilkes ran the ball for 40 of the 61 yards on the drive that was capped by a Tabora six-yard TD pass to put the Colonels on the board. A failed PAT would leave the score at 6-0.
- On the following Dutchmen possession, LVC again failed to gain a first down but this time Wilkes would block the ensuing punt and recover it for a touchdown to push their lead out 13-0 with 5:08 left in the opening quarter.
- LVC's third possession would start to see the offense get into a rhythm. The Dutchmen methodically worked their way down the field, headlined by a 24-yard pass by Braden Bohannon to Cameron Niemeyer. Jacob Shermeyer would punctuate the drive with a 10-yard TD run to pull LVC within six right before the end of the period.
2nd Quarter
- To start the second quarter, LVC would force the Colonels to go backwards with a sack and a pair of incompletions to force a quick punt.
- The rhythm from the last possession of the first would carry over as the Dutchmen went 66 yards in just 2:32 to find the end zone. On the second play of the drive, Bohannon would find Jay Sisko for 48 yards to set up the Dutchmen at the Wilkes' five-yard line. On fourth and goal from the one, Bohannon would punch it in and a Kevin Roberts PAT gave LVC their first lead, 14-13 early in the second quarter.
- Each team would have short offensive possession following the Dutchmen score. Wilkes would put together their first successful drive since early in the contest with an 85-yard drive that took over five minutes. Again, the Colonels utilized the ground attack that accounted for 63 of their yards on the possession. Tabora would connect on a 7-yard TD toss to put Wilkes back ahead 20-14.
- The Dutchmen offense responded right before the half with a 75-yard drive of their own. With just 15 ticks remaining before halftime, Bohannon found a diving Andrew Olson in the corner of the end zone from 31 yards out for the late touchdown. The following PAT was blocked by Wilkes as the teams went into the locker room deadlocked, 20-20.
3rd Quarter
- Neither offense could get much going in the third quarter besides the Wilkes opening possession that led to a 28-yard field goal. Other than that opening possession, the two teams combined for just four first downs as defense reigned supreme. LVC would trail 23-20 headed into the final frame.
4th Quarter
- The defenses continued to dominate play in the fourth quarter with neither offense able to generate much explosion for a majority of the final 15 minutes. Wilkes tried to stretch their lead around the midway point of the quarter but LVC made a stand at their own six on fourth down to keep the game within three points with 6:45 to go.
- The Colonels would force a Dutchmen punt on the following possession as LVC looked to get a stop with just 3:46 remaining in regulation. On second down from midfield, Jules would break free for a 49-yard TD run to put Wilkes up double digits with just 3:20 to go.
- The Dutchmen offense would continue to struggle in the hurry-up late and would eventually fall 30-20.
