How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. –
Rachel Wright's goal with 54 seconds left broke a 1-1 tie and helped Lebanon Valley take down Widener 2-1 on Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen won their fourth straight game and improved to 6-8, 2-2 MACC, while the Pride fell to 10-3, 2-2 MACC.
With the game knotted at 1-1 late in the fourth, it seemed like the game was headed for overtime.
Rachel Wright had other ideas, however. In the final minute,
Lexi Ward split the defense with a perfect pass and Wright controlled it and hammered it past Widener's Kylie Haberstroh. From there, the Dutchmen held on in the final 54 seconds for the crucial conference-victory.
After neither team could find the back of the net in the opening period, LVC got on the board early in the second quarter when Ward put home a rebound for the 1-0 lead. Just over six minutes later, the Pride evened the game off Bryn Marcavage's goal off of a rebound.
