How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team fell 13-9 to the hands of Susquehanna in the 2020 home opener for the Dutchmen. Big second and fourth quarters for the River Hawks, where they outscored LVC a combined 9-5 in those periods, were enough to down the Dutchmen. LVC is now 1-3 on the season while Susquehanna picks up their first win and are 1-5.
Each team would strike for a pair of goals in the opening period. Susquehanna scored first both times with LVC answered shortly thereafter. Susquehanna scored the first goal at the 12:35 mark of the opening period before
Evan Crawford responded with a goal of his own just 1:25 later. Another River Hawks goal with 3:36 left to play in the first would be answered with a
Kyle Golden tally just 1:39 later as the two teams were tied 2-2 after one.
The River Hawks would outscore the Dutchmen 4-2 in the second quarter to take a 6-4 halftime lead. Susquehanna struck for three goals in a 1:19 span early in the second to put some distance between them and the Dutchmen. In the third, LVC would be unable to gain any ground as each team found the back of the net twice and LVC trailed 8-6 headed into the final 15 minutes.
Susquehanna would strike for five goals in the final stanza, all coming unanswered in a span of just over four minutes. LVC would score three goals to close out the period, a pair from
Josh Croyle, to close the gap but would ultimately come up short falling 13-9.
Inside the Numbers
- Josh Croyle led the Dutchmen offensively with a hat trick on seven total shots.
- Trevor Holak, Evan Crawford, Carson Frey, and Sam Long all added goals for LVC.
- Crawford led LVC with a pair of assists.
- Preston Ouellette led the Susquehanna attack with five goals.
- The Dutchmen outshot Susquehanna 40-30 in total, but both teams put 20 shots on target.
- Susquehanna committed 24 turnovers compared to LVC's 14.
- The Dutchmen were 17-19 on clear attempts whereas Susquehanna was 14-18 on the clear.
- The River Hawks controlled the X, claiming 16 of the 24 faceoffs.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are back on the field this Saturday when they host Marymount (Va.) University in non-conference action. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Arnold Field.
