How It Happened
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Lebanon Valley began its 2020 spring trip by blanking Northland College (Ashland, Wisc.) 5-0 in non-conference baseball action. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 2-2, while the Jacks fell to 1-2.

LVC got on the board quickly and provided Tanner Rock with immediate run support, as TJ Holdredge hit a sacrifice fly to center field that plated Bryan Towers in the bottom of the first. Then, in the bottom of the second, the Dutchmen padded their lead after Mitch Rickabaugh roped a triple, allowing Dan Scalley to score, making it 2-0 in favor of LVC.

With Rock mowing down Northland, the Dutchmen's offense continued to click in the bottom of the third when Michael Leri doubled home Holdredge, followed by Nico Santoro's RBI-single that allowed Leri to score. Finally, Dave Mangold singled home Santoro, increasing the Dutchmen's lead to 5-0. It was more than enough for Rock, Tony Bennage, and Joe DeGrazia, as the three combined for 13 strikeouts in seven innings of work, en route to LVC's 5-0 shutout-victory.

The Dutchmen again scored early, this time when Conor Smith reached on an error that allowed Josh Herring to score. Ward took over from there and cruised through the Jacks' lineup. LVC added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Santoro scored on a wild pitch, followed later by Towers' run off a wild pitch.
