How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – In a game between two teams fighting for the sixth and final UCHC playoff spot, Lebanon Valley fell to Nazareth by a 4-2 score on Friday night in men's ice hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen dropped to 5-13-3, 3-8-3 UCHC, while the Golden Flyers jumped to 9-9-2, 6-7 UCHC.
In a game that was riddled with penalties by both teams, the visiting Golden Flyers struck first when James McDonald started off what would be a career night by scoring 2:20 into the first period after he found the back of the net with his team on the power play. Then, in the closing minutes of the opening period, with LVC a man up, Nazareth's McDonald scored a short-handed goal that gave the Golden Flyers a 2-0 lead after one period of action.
Early in the second period, McDonald reached the hat trick with an even-strength goal from Henry McKinney that made it 3-0, however late in the second, with 3:47 to go,
Justin Hall made it a two-score game with a wrister that found the back of the cage from
Alex Borowiec and
Danny Galvez, and the Dutchmen found themselves within striking distance down 3-1 heading into the third.
LVC was unable to come to within one until
Felix Takacsi-Nagy scored on the power play after a scrum in front of the net to make it 3-2. With 40 seconds to go, LVC pulled goaltender
Henry Burns for the extra attacker, but couldn't gain Nazareth's zone, and McDonald finished off an impressive night by scoring an empty-netter with a second remaining to give the Golden Flyers the 4-2 win.
