How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's Men's Basketball squad dropped a tough 79-77 overtime game in a wild matchup with Lycoming on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth action. The Flying Dutchmen slipped to 9-11, 4-7 MACC, while the Warriors jumped to 15-6, 8-4 MACC.
At the 2:53 mark of the second half,
Jeremy Deihm, who had a huge night for the home team, hit a layup to give LVC a five-point cushion at 61-56. From there, the visitors battled back and came to within one at 61-60 with 1:33 left, but Deihm answered with another layup with 56 seconds left, putting LVC ahead by three at 63-60. Lyco's Darius Dangerfield then made a layup with 41 ticks left, followed by Matt Ilodigwe's corner 3-pointer with four seconds left that put the Warriors up by two at 65-63. Coming out of a timeout, the Dutchmen had to get the ball down to the other end quickly, and did just that, as
Zach Tucker sprinted and hit an acrobatic layup as time expired in regulation, sending the game to overtime at 65-65.
Early in the extra period, the teams traded off buckets with Tucker hitting a layup and
Collin Jones adding one later to even the score at 69-69 with 3:43 left. 18 seconds later, Tucker hit back-to-back attempts from the charity stripe to put LVC up 71-69, but Ilodigwe dropped another crucial trey at 3:08, putting the visiting Warriors ahead 72-71. Lycoming got some stops on the defensive end, and with 2:18 to go, Ryan Hollis hit a free throw to put the Warriors up by two at 73-71. At the 1:35 mark, Jones knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game at 73-73, but with 1:12 left, Mo Terry hit yet another big 3-pointer for the away team, putting Lyco ahead 76-73.
Luis Garcia's layup with four seconds left later helped LVC come to within two at 79-77, and after a pair of missed free throws, the Dutchmen had a chance to tie the game or even win it, but Tucker's 3-pointer from way out missed, and the Dutchmen fell 79-77.
The game stayed close early on as
Trevor Covey hit a jumper with 13:57 to go to put LVC up 10-7. Jones followed with a layup, while Tucker knocked down a triple with 13 minutes to go that put the Dutchmen up 15-7. A minute and a half later,
Luis Garcia put LVC up by nine at 17-8, but the Warriors answered with a 9-2 spurt to come to within two at 19-17 with seven minutes remaining. Throughout the remainder of the first, the Dutchmen continued to hold a slight advantage, and
Justin Baker's layup with 40 seconds left gave the home squad a nine-point lead (31-22) heading into the second half.
