Goucher 9, Lebanon Valley 7
How It Happened
BALTIMORE – Lebanon Valley outscored Goucher 4-2 in the fourth quarter, but came up short in a 9-7 loss to the Gophers on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action. The Flying Dutchmen slipped to 1-2, while Goucher jumped to 2-2.
Carson Frey opened the game's scoring with a tally at 11:03 from
Josh Croyle to give the visiting Dutchmen the early 1-0 advantage. The Gophers, however, responded by scoring four consecutive goals to take a comfortable 4-1 lead with 2:03 to go in the opening period. The home team held its four-goal advantage and took that into the second quarter.
At the 10:16 mark of the second, Croyle brought LVC to within two with a goal from
Trevor Holak, but less than four minutes later, at 6:26, Ben Smith put Goucher back on top by three at 5-2, and that score held up heading into halftime.
Coming out of the halftime break,
Josh Reinhardt made it a two-goal deficit again for LVC thanks to an assist from
Evan Crawford, but Goucher responded with a critical 3-0 spurt that carried over early into the fourth, as the Gophers went up 8-3 with 10:02 remaining in the game. With 5:35 to go, Croyle netted his second of the day with a tally on the man-advantage, but with two minutes left, the Gophers' Julian Schemm put the game out of reach when his goal made it 9-4. Frey scored with 47 seconds left and with 19 to go, while
Alex Kiviniemi netted a goal with six ticks left on the clock, but LVC ran out of time and fell 9-7.
