How It Happened
VALENCIA, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's Men's Ice Hockey team settled for a 3-3 tie with Chatham University on Friday night in UCHC action. The Cougars earned an extra UCHC point after winning the shootout 2-1. The Flying Dutchmen now sit at 5-15-4, 3-10-4 UCHC, while Chatham moved to 3-20-1, 2-14-1 UCHC.

Late in the third period, with LVC ahead 3-2, Chatham pulled Matt Calas with 2:20 remaining to bring out the extra attacker. The Cougars led off four shots in the span of almost two minutes, but
Tyler Perhac was there each time for the save. Then, with 14 ticks on the clock, Chatham finally broke through and evened the game at 3-3 after Eric Hildebrand found the back of the net during a scrum in front of the net. Hildebrand's goal then sent the game into overtime.

The Dutchmen applied pressure early on in overtime, as
Austen Zimmerman and
Ziki Mroz both saw good chances, but Calas made two big stops. Then, it was Perhac's turn to come up big, and he did just that, making four saves in the five-minute overtime to keep the game tied at 3-3. Once the game was knotted after the first OT, it officially ended in a tie, but the teams kept playing with a 3-on-3 five-minute OT to try to figure out who'd get the extra UCHC point. Neither team could find the back of the net in the 3v3 extra period, so the teams went to a shootout.

The shootout last nearly 15 rounds and was filled with back-and-forth action. Midway through, LVC scored, however Chatham answered and netted a goal to stay alive. Later, the Cougars' Calas stopped the Dutchmen and the Chatham scored to win the shootout 2-1 to grab the extra UCHC point.

In the early going, LVC was the first team to light the lamp when
Kyle Scott scored at 6:49 from
Zak Sheikh and
Connor Matsinger. Then, less than two minutes later,
Alex Borowiec netted a goal from
Tino Alunni and Mroz. The fast-paced, high-scoring opening period continued when Chatham's Cory King brought his team to within one at 11:39, followed by Jack Schmiedlin's goal less than three minutes later that tied the game at 2-2 heading into the first intermission. 25 seconds into the second period,
Danny Galvez put the Dutchmen back on top with a tally from
Justin Hall and Zimmerman, but with 14 seconds left, Chatham tied the game again to send it into overtime.
