How It Happened
RYE, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley settled for a 2-2 tie with Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon in UCHC Men's Ice Hockey action. The game eventually went to a shootout, where the Flying Dutchmen won 2-0 to earn the extra conference point. LVC now sits at 5-12-3, 3-7-3 UCHC, while the Valiants went to 7-11-2, 4-8-1 UCHC.
Just after the midway point of the opening period, LVC drew a penalty and went to work on the power play.
Ziki Mroz stepped into one and scored the first goal of his young career, off an assist from
Zach Balodis, giving the visiting Dutchmen a 1-0 lead, an advantage that they took into the second period. At 8:11 of the second,
Danny Galvez made it 2-0 in favor of LVC after he scored from
Zak Sheikh and
Alex Borowiec.
Just over three minutes after the Dutchmen made it 2-0, M-Ville came to within one when Ken McLean scored a power-play goal. LVC, however, still went into the second intermission with the advantage at 2-1. At 9:38 of the third, the Valiants evened the game at 2-2 with another power-play score, this time by Glynn Robitaille. For the remainder of regulation, neither team could take the lead, so the game went into overtime.
Henry Burns and Mac Vail each increased their level of play in the overtime period, as the game stayed knotted at 2-2 after a pair of overtime periods, resulting in a shootout. First up was
Cole Hepler, and he scored to put LVC up 1-0. After back-to-back saves by Burns, Galvez had a chance to help the Dutchmen gain an extra UCHC point, and he did just that by beating Vail to give the Dutchmen the 2-0 win in the shootout.
