How It Happened
MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Playing in its first game of the new year, Lebanon Valley dropped a 4-0 contest to Morrisville State on Wednesday night in non-conference men's ice hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen fell to 3-8-1, while the Mustangs improved to 8-6-0.
In the first period, neither team could find the game's first score until Ben Sprague found the back of the net from Nick DeVito and James Boisvert, as the home team took a 1-0 advantage into the second period. In the second, the Dutchmen supplied some heavy pressure in the early going, but Morrisville State's Jared Young was there to make the saves.
Just past the midway point of the middle period, the Mustangs went up 2-0 when Eric Melso scored from Brendan Borg and Ryan Bochert. Then, with 17 ticks left on the clock in the second, Jestin Somero scored, giving the Morrisville State a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into third-period action.
1:51 into the third period, the home team put the game out of reach when Melso netted his second of the game to make it 4-0. LVC let loose a total of 30 shots on net, but Young stopped every shot he faced, en route to Morrisville State's 4-0 shutout victory.
