How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – Playing in its first game inside Hersheypark Arena since Nov. 15, Lebanon Valley's men's ice hockey team was edged by The College of Brockport 4-3 in a back-and-forth non-conference matchup on Friday night. The Flying Dutchmen dropped to 3-9-1, while the Golden Eagles improved to 8-6.
Most of tonight's goal-scoring occurred in a wild opening period. It didn't take long for the visiting Golden Eagles to find the back of the net, as Jake Colosanti netted a goal just 1:46 into the first period to give Brockport the early one-goal advantage. Less than seven minutes later, at 8:06, the Dutchmen provided an answer when
Alex Borowiec scored from
Kyle Scott and
Austen Zimmerman to even the game at 1-1.
Nearly three minutes later, with the Golden Eagles on the man-advantage, Colosanti scored his second of the period from Doc Gentzler and Ethan Solat to put his team up 2-1. Once again, LVC responded at 11:57 when
Justin Hall found the back of the net off assists from
Brad Viola and
Tino Alunni. From there, neither team could take a lead before the first ended, and the teams went into the second period knotted at 2-2.
The Dutchmen were riddled by penalties, particularly in the second stanza, as Brockport netted a pair of power-play goals at 11:32 and 13:17 to take a 4-2 lead into the third period. In the final period, LVC drew four Brockport penalties, but were unable to take advantage of having the extra skater. With just 1:06 left in the game,
Danny Galvez provided the Dutchmen with a spark with a beautiful goal from
Connor Matsinger that brought LVC back to within one at 4-3. With 39 ticks left on the clock, goalie
Henry Burns was pulled for the extra attacker, and LVC let off several shots, but were unable to even the game and the Dutchmen narrowly fell 4-3.
