How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley hung tough with the No. 2 team in the country for the majority of the game, but eventually fell to SUNY Geneseo 3-1 on Saturday night in non-conference men's ice hockey action. The Knights improved to 12-2-1, while the Flying Dutchmen fell to 3-10-1.
In the opening period, LVC's netminder
Aidan Richardson put together one of the most impressive stanzas for a Dutchmen between the pipes in recent memory, as the freshman faced a slew of scoring chances from Geneseo, but Richardson made every save and kept the game scoreless. The period ended with the game knotted at 0-0 and Richardson made 20 stops in the first.
6:23 into the second period, the Knights finally broke through when Henry Cleghorn beat Richardson to give Geneseo a 1-0 advantage, a lead that the visitors took into the third period. Early on in the third, at 2:29, there was a scrum in front of Geneseo's net and
Brad Viola tied the game with a bad-angle shot that somehow found the back of the net.
The game remained tied until Geneseo defenseman Kyle Hartman generated a turnover and scored an unassisted goal at 13:16 of the third. In the final minutes, the Dutchmen battled and pulled Richardson for the extra attacker, but LVC couldn't come up with the equalizer, and with 54 seconds to go, Geneseo's Conlan Keenan added an empty-netter, as the Knights went on to win by a 3-1 score.
