How It Happened
DALLAS, Pa. – Misericordia's big first quarter was enough to down the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team, 76-53, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. LVC falls to 5-7 on the season while Misericordia improves to 10-1 on the year.
 
The Cougars jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter that saw them knock down 10 field goals and shoot over 45% from the field while Misericordia's defense held LVC in check as the Dutchmen only managed eight points on 3-of-14 shooting for the quarter. Misericordia put together a 13-2 run during the period to open up a 21-8 lead after 10 minutes. The Dutchmen found their footing offensively in the second period as they scored 18 points, but the Cougars continued their hot shooting as well and held a 40-26 advantage at the intermission.
 
The second half started similar to the first for both sides as the Cougars hit a trio of 3-pointers and shot 44% from the floor in the third quarter while LVC was held to just 5-of-19 from the field to help Misericordia extend their lead to 59-37 with just one quarter remaining. The Cougars would hold on to their lead as they topped the Dutchmen 76-53.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Kennedy Kuffa led the Dutchmen offensively with 15 points. Emily Mealey also finished with double figures in points with 10 to go along with nine boards and four assists.
  • The Cougars had three players finished in double figures, led by Jordan Barth who ended with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tessa Zamolyi added 12 points and 12 boards while Nora Tracey also picked up 12 points.
  • Misericordia shot 45.7% from the floor for the game while LVC finished at 33.9% shooting.
  • Each team struggled to take care of the ball as both sides committed 23 turnovers.
  • The Cougars finished with 10 blocks.

 
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen are back home for the first time since Dec. 7, when LVC hosts Hood College in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Sorrentino Gymnasium.
