How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – Lebanon Valley exploded for five goals in the final seven minutes of action to handle Neumann University by a 6-1 score on Friday night in UCHC Men's Ice Hockey action. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 5-12-2, 3-7-2 UCHC, while the Knights dropped to 6-13, 5-7 UCHC.
After neither team could find the back of the net in the opening period,
Austen Zimmerman skated down the right side of the ice early in the middle period and scored off a nifty shot from
Tyler Romel to give LVC the early advantage. Zimmerman's tally was the lone goal of the second, and the Dutchmen went into the third with a narrow 1-0 lead. To view Zimmerman's goal, check out the link below.
In the third period, the game completely changed, beginning when Neumann evened the game at 1-1 at 12:26 off Danny Cangelosi's goal. Less than a minute later is when things started to get wild.
Mark Kishko found the back of the net at 13:11 from
Matt Kassab and Romel, followed by
Max Loga's score at 14:21 from
Kevin Van Bokkelen and
Skyler Pugh that made it a 3-1 game.
LVC's onslaught continued when
Cole Hepler netted a goal just 49 seconds later from
Justin Hall and
Danny Galvez, followed by
Zach Balodis' tally exactly three minutes later from
Ziki Mroz and Kassab to increase the Dutchmen's lead to 5-1. After a series of penalties and with a minute left, the Knights pulled their goal to make it a 6-on-3, but Hepler stole the puck away and put Neumann away for good with an unassisted empty-netter for the 6-1 advantage.
