How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – A pair of Utica powerplay goals were enough to down the Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team in UCHC action on Saturday afternoon.
The first period was a defensive struggle for both sides with neither team able to get on the scoreboard in the opening 20 minutes. The Pioneers fired off most of the shots in the frame but none extraordinarily threatening to LVC goaltender
Jill Moffatt, who stopped all 13 shots her way in the first period.
The Dutchmen spent a lot of time on the penalty kill in the second period as they committed five penalties in the frame while Utica also were charged with two penalties. Utica's Olivia Hirschy would capitalize on one of LVC's penalties early in the period by finding the back of the net on a shot from the slot to notch the first goal of the contest. The 1-0 score would stand in favor of Utica as the game headed into the final period.
Utica's Georgiana Santullo put home the Pioneer's second powerplay goal early in the third period to double their lead and put LVC down a pair of goals with just over 15 minutes remaining in regulation. The Dutchmen offense was unable to find any cracks in the Utica defense and were held scoreless in the 2-0 defeat to the Pioneers.
