How It Happened
HERSHEY, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's ice hockey team won their first contest of 2020, 4-2, over Wilkes University on Friday evening. Three different Dutchmen scored in the victory, led by
Olivia Cindrich who picked up a pair of goals and freshman
Shelby Guinard recorded her first career win in net for LVC.
After a back-and forth start to the first period, the Dutchmen would get on the board 8:01 into the frame off the stick of
Madison Humes.
Chloe Glass would feed
Peyton Nagy who found a wide open Humes in the slot who would bury the puck in the back of the net as LVC would take a 1-0 lead into the locker room after one period.
The Dutchmen would waste little time to double their lead in the second period when Cindrich stole the puck in Wilkes' defensive zone and would wrap around the goal and slide the puck in just 31 seconds into the period. The score would remain 2-0 for a majority of the period until Wilkes would be awarded a penalty shot at the 12:52 mark in the second. Erica Sheaffer would capitalize on the opportunity to cut the deficit in half but the Dutchmen still held a 2-1 advantage with 20 minutes left in regulation.
LVC would control the final period as they picked up a pair of goals in a span of 3:57 to push their lead out to three. Cindrich would open the period scoring her second goal of the game on a breakaway and beating the Wilkes goaltender with the backhanded shot.
