How It Happened
UNION, N.J. – Lebanon Valley's field hockey squad dropped a 4-0 decision at Kean University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action. The Dutchmen slipped to 0-3 and the Cougars improved to 3-1.
A big first half from the home team eventually proved to be enough. Just over a minute into action, Kean's Jenna Patrone netted her third on the season after she dribbled through the defense and fired it into the back of the net. Then, at the 9:28 mark in the first quarter, Melissa Way scored her fourth of the season after Patrone's shot was saved by
Corinne Kearney, but Way was there for the rebound.
The Cougars scored their third of the quarter at 11:37 when Way again found the back of the net. From there, the Flying Dutchmen limited the damage for the remainder of the quarter and the entire second, but couldn't generate any offense despite six shots in the first two quarters combined and were down 3-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter in the 44th minute, the home team's Rachel Mills netted her first of the season. The visiting Dutchmen let off one shot in the fourth, but Kean held on for the 4-0 victory.
