How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley bounced back nicely in their second day of competition at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic picking up a pair of victories. The Dutchmen topped Fredonia in straight sets to start the day and followed that up with a four-set victory over Western New England.

In the first set, the Dutchmen and Royals went back-and-forth with neither team able to pull away from the other. The set was within at least four points the entire way until the final point of the set for Scranton. The Dutchmen had their biggest lead of the set when they led 12-8 after a kill from Julia Rill. The Royals would claw back even at 13-13 before they eventually took the lead for good. Scranton would score the final five points of the set after being tied at 20 to take set one, 25-20.

The second set was more of the same with both teams staying close on the scoreboard, this time within three points for the entirety of the set. Scranton would serve for set point but Reily Shelly would earn a kill to keep the match going, tied at 24. LVC would take the lead after a Mikiah Sangrey service ace, but the Royals would answer with three straight points to take a two-set lead.

The third set was all Royals as they opened up a lead early and grew the advantage up to as much as eight points as they finished off the Dutchmen 25-19 in the final set to win the match.

Shelly led the Dutchmen with seven kills and 18 digs in game one. Jayna Class added five kills and a pair of blocks. Sangrey led the way serving with three aces to go along with a team-high 23 assists. Kaitlyn Reed and Alice Thorsen added 10 and eight digs respectively.

In the Dutchmen's second match of the evening, LVC topped Penn State Altoona in straight sets (25-23, 25-19, 25-20).

LVC jumped out to an early lead in the first set against Altoona and never looked back. The Lions would make it interesting late but the Dutchmen would hold off PSU to take the first set 25-23.  The second set was dominated early by the Lions as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead out the gate. LVC would then crank it up on the court outscoring PSU 23-12 for the remainder of the set to jump ahead two sets to none.
The third set was all Dutchmen as they posted an incredible .500 hitting percentage and cruised to a 25-20 win in the final set to sweep the Lions and pick up the victory.

Amanda Sides and Class led the way offensively for the Dutchmen with 10 kills, three aces, and a pair of blocks each. Grace Powell also added 10 kills in the win. Sangrey finished with 36 assists. Thorsen led the team with 17 digs to go along with a pair of service aces. Reed also tallied 14 digs.
