Arcadia def. Lebanon Valley 2-3 (16-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-23, 13-15)
How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought five-setter to open conference play to the hands of Arcadia University. The Dutchmen fall to 3-4, 0-1 on the season while the Knights improve to 4-2, 1-0.
The teams would alternate set victories throughout the match. The first set was controlled by Arcadia and the Knights would put LVC away ending the set on a 7-2 run to take the opener. The Dutchmen would bounce back to take set two by seven points. LVC won the first four points of the set and never relinquished that lead to tie the match up at a set apiece.
Set three was a set of runs on both sides early on but Arcadia would go on a 9-0 run after trailing to the Dutchmen 7-6 to take control of the set and cruise to a third set win. The Dutchmen would once again respond with their backs against the wall winning five of the final seven points to force a decisive fifth set.
The fifth set was close throughout as each team traded blows to a 4-4 mark early in the frame. Neither team would lead by more than three points for the entirety of the fifth set. Arcadia went on a 4-1 run after being tied 7-7 to take an 11-8 advantage. LVC would once again answer as a pair of kills from
Jayna Class and two service aces, one from
Julia Rill and the other by
Amanda Sides, would bring the score tied up 12-12. The Knights would win three of the final four points, including a pair of kills by Shannon Ryan to knock off the Dutchmen 15-13 in the final set.
Reily Shelly led the Dutchmen offensively with 16 kills, closely followed by Class and Sides who recorded 14 and 10 kills respectively. Shelly also led the team with 19 digs with
Kaitlyn Reed and Rill picking up 17 and 10 apiece.
Mikiah Sangrey posted a game-high 43 assists.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen will head out to Aurora, New York to participate in the Wells College Quad this weekend. LVC will open up the weekend on Friday night with a matchup against Penn State Behrend. The Dutchmen will conclude the quad with a doubleheader against host Wells College and Oneonta on Saturday afternoon.
