Lebanon Valley def. Penn State Behrend 3-1 (25-13, 25-23, 19-25, 28-26)
How It Happened
AURORA, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley's volleyball team opened up the Wells College Quad with a four-set victory over Penn State Behrend on Friday evening. LVC is back to .500 on the season while PSU Behrend falls to 2-7.
The Dutchmen came out of the gates hot opening up the first set on a 7-1 run led by a pair of kills by
Julia Rill. LVC would never let the Lions get back in the set as they kept a safe lead throughout and ended the set on a seven of the last 11 points to take the opening set. Set two was the opposite as the Lions opened up with an 8-1 lead. LVC would claw their way bac going on a 9-2 run of their own to tie the set up 10-10. The Lions led 19-14 but
Reily Shelly would catch fire offensively for the Dutchmen as she recorded seven kills as LVC ended the set on an 11-4 run to take a two-set advantage.
PSU would take the third set by a 25-19 mark. The fourth set started similar to the first with the Dutchmen opening up an 8-1 lead out the gate. The Lions would get back within one point at 9-8 and the teams would then trade blows throughout the set. LVC was in danger of dropping the fourth set down 24-23 but would respond with a kill by Rill to draw back even. The teams would go back and forth but a
Jayna Class kill and a Lion attack error would give the Dutchmen the 28-26 fourth set win and the match victory.
Shelly led the way offensively for LVC with 15 kills followed by Class who finished with 12.
Mikiah Sangrey recorded 35 assists in the win.
Kaitlyn Reed finished with 15 digs followed by Rill and
Alice Thorsen who each picked up 10 digs of their own. Rill and Sangrey also recorded four service aces. Rill posted a season-high eight kills.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen will continue their play at the Wells College Quad with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. LVC will play host Wells to begin their day at noon followed by a matchup with Oneonta at 2 p.m.
