ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 game to Elizabethtown College in overtime in the Flying Dutchmen's 2019 home opener on Wednesday night. The Blue Jays jumped to 1-2, while LVC fell to 0-2.
Down 2-1 late in the fourth quarter,
Cecile Kat received a hard pass from the right side from
Danielle Alba, and Kat laced one past the goalie for her second marker of the game to even the score at 2-2. For the final eight minutes, neither team could find the go-ahead tally, forcing the game into sudden-death overtime.
Early in the extra period, E-Town was awarded a penalty corner and took advantage of it. The first pass was to Chloe Smith, and she miss-hit the ball, but it went right to the stick of Lauren Scheib and she turned and faced
Corinne Kearney in net and scored the game-winner.
After neither team generated any offense in the first quarter, the Blue Jays struck for the contest's first goal in the second when Olivia Beachley deflected a shot from up top and corralled the ball and scored. Just under nine minutes later, Kat evened the game for the home team when she weaved her way in and out through defenders and beat E-Town's goalie on the right side to tie things up at 1-1, which was the score heading into halftime.
Schieb netted her first of the game for the visitor's 4:11 into the third quarter when Anna Mostoller passed the ball in the middle where Scheib was waiting.
