How It Happened
ASTON, Pa. –
Kazuya Hirano's early second half goal was enough for Lebanon Valley in its 1-0 shutout victory over Neumann University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action. The Flying Dutchmen jumped to 3-5-1, while the Knights fell to 2-6-1.
After neither team could find the back of the net in the opening half, LVC opened up second-half action by applying pressure to Neumann's defense. In the span of less than a minute,
Ivan Jorel got two shots off for the Dutchmen's defense, and in the 50th minute, the visitors finally broke through the Knights' defense when Hirano found the back of the net to give the Dutchmen the 1-0 advantage. From there, LVC didn't take its foot off the gas pedal and continued action in Neumann's zone. After
Anderson Velozwong ripped a shot on goal that was saved, the Dutchmen generated a corner kick, but
Noah Campomizzi's shot went wide right.
In the 72nd minute, the home team looked for the equalizer when Daniel Rival let off a shot towards the top right of the goal, but
Sean Quirk was there for the save to keep his squad ahead 1-0. For the remainder of the game, LVC's defense, along with Quirk, held Neumann off the scoreboard and they didn't record another shot for the rest of the game, resulting in LVC's 1-0 shutout win.
