How It Happened
GENEVA, N.Y. –
Hannah Simon scored twice to lead Lebanon Valley to a convincing 3-1 victory over William Smith on the second and final day of the William Smith Classic on Sunday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action. The Dutchmen won their second game in as many days and now sit at 2-4, while the Herons dropped to 1-4. This is the first time since 2016 that LVC has defeated both St. Lawrence and William Smith in the Classic.
Simon scored an early goal that set the tone for the remainder of the game. Just 6:52 into the opening quarter,
Danielle Alba found Simon and she buried it for her first goal of the season. The hosts, however, got even with the Dutchmen 1:50 into the second quarter when Mackenzie Wodka dished a pass to Sophie Craig who snuck one past
Nikki Willi.
LVC had the answer just over three minutes later when
Cecile Kat does what she does best, and that's score goals. She netted her team-leading fifth goal of the year and what proved to be the game-winner, her second of the season, which also leads the team. From there, LVC's defense along with Willi didn't allow another goal, and late in the second quarter, Simon scored her second of the game, putting the visitors ahead by two at 3-1. In the third and fourth quarters, LVC held the Herons scoreless and went on to win 3-1.
Inside the Numbers
- Kat now has at least one goal in three consecutive games. She added a team-high six shots this afternoon, occluding four on target.
