How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley's men's soccer had their brief two-game winning streak come to an end with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Elizabethtown College on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays scored three unanswered goals to drop the Dutchmen to 2-2-1 while E-town improves to 2-2-1.
The Dutchmen would open the scoring early in the game. At the 12:24 mark of the first half,
Braydon Shuck would receive a pass from
Noah Campomizzi inside the 18-yard box, Shuck would quickly pivot to his right foot and place the ball in the right corner to put the Dutchmen up 1-0. Just over 17 minutes later, Elizabethtown would earn a corner kick, and after a failed clear attempt by the LVC defense, Rathsam would strike the ball on the bounce perfectly into the top-left corner of the goal to tie the game 1-1. The score would remain tied into the halftime break.
The second half would be a defensive struggle for both teams early on as neither team could find much space to operate at the offensive end. The Blue Jays would finally get an opportunity in the 66th minute and they would capitalize. Cameron Sheva rebounded a blocked shot from about 20 yards out and would blast the ball in the left corner of the net to give Elizabethtown their first lead of the contest. Eight minutes later, Rathsam would score on a penalty kick for a key insurance goal and the Dutchmen would eventually fall 3-1.
