How It Happened
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Lebanon Valley bounced back nicely in their second day of competition at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic picking up a pair of victories. The Dutchmen topped Fredonia in straight sets to start the day and followed that up with a four-set victory over Western New England.
Shelly led the Dutchmen against Fredonia with 11 kills to go along with 11 digs.
Jayna Class added 10 kills and a pair of service aces.
Jensen Burnheimer led the Dutchmen in assists with 29.
Julia Rill totaled 11 digs to go along with a pair of assists.
Kaitlyn Reed led the team with four service aces while also adding 10 digs in the win.
In the Dutchmen's second match of the day, LVC came back to top Western New England in four sets after dropping the first set (23-25, 25-12, 25-11, 25-19).
Class led the Dutchmen with 12 kills to go along with a team-high three service aces. Shelly continued her strong play with 11 more kills as well as a team-high 20 digs in the win.
Mikiah Sangrey added seven kills. Burnheimer led the team with 32 assists while also recording three service aces. Reed tallied 10 digs and a pair of service aces.
Sophomore
Reily Shelly earned All-Tournament team honors for the weekend.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen will play their home opener in a tri-match with Scranton and Penn St. Altoona this Friday, Sept. 6. LVC will take on Scranton in game one at 6 p.m. followed by Altoona at 8 p.m. in Sorrentino Gymnasium.
