How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes Colonels outscored the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen 5-3 on Tuesday afternoon's nonconference matchup. The Colonels jumped to 14-18, and the Dutchmen dropped to 14-21.
Wilkes came out swinging in the first three innings as the Colonels scored three unanswered runs. In the top of the fourth, the Dutchmen stopped the Colonels run streak and scored a run of their own after
Joey Wrabel scored after a wild pitch by Wilkes.
In the top of the fifth, the Colonels scored two more runs and now had the 5-1 lead. The Dutchmen kept the fight alive when
Chris DeClerico stepped up with
Dan Scalley on third and singled to left field earning an RBI and another point for the Dutchmen. Both teams remained at 5-2, until the bottom of the ninth when the Dutchmen put in three pinch hitters.
Bryan Towers hit for Bryan Mowrey and was on second when
TJ Holdredge hit for
Dan Scalley and singled up the middle scoring Towers. LVC, however, was unable to score any more runs, and the Colonels went on to win 5-3.
