How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley was outscored 6-0 in the final quarter and dropped a 13-6 decision to Messiah on Saturday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse action. The Flying Dutchmen fell to 6-8, 2-3 MAC Commonwealth and the Falcons improved to 8-5, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth.
LVC opened up the game on fire and netted the contest's first three goals, including a pair from
Matt Torrence and one from
Trevor Holak. Holak's tally made it 3-0 in favor of the Dutchmen early on in the second quarter. Messiah, however, responded with three consecutive goals to even the game at 3-3 with 1:15 remaining in the second. Then, with just seven ticks left until halftime,
Joe Olives found the back of the net off an assist from
Kevin Beaver to give LVC a slight 4-3 advantage at the break.
Torrence extended the home team's lead to 5-3 early in the third quarter with his third goal of the game, and later, after the Falcons scored at 9:47, Torrence netted his fourth to put LVC back ahead by two at 6-4. Again, the visitors responded with three straight tallies to go up 7-6 with 3:51 left, but Torrence continued his impressive game with a fifth goal with 16 seconds left in the third to even things up at 7-7 heading into the fourth.
Unfortunately, it was all Messiah in the final quarter, as the Falcons outscored the Dutchmen 6-0 in the quarter and went on to win 13-7.
Inside the Numbers
- Torrence stuffed the stat sheet, going for five goals on 12 shots with four ground balls and one caused turnover.
- Olives scored a goal and added one assist to go along with two ground balls.
- Beaver finished with a pair of assists for LVC.

Barrett Campbell picked up a team-high five ground balls.

Cam Epple was dealt the loss despite making 19 saves in net.

Luke Tamberino caused a team-high three turnovers and collected a pair of ground balls.
- Liam Lilienthal paced Messiah's offense with four goals and one assist.
- The visitors led in total shots at 47-40 and shots on goal at 32-22.
- LVC went 21-for-23 on clears and the Falcons were 18-for-22.
Who's Next?
The Dutchmen face a tough test this Tuesday, April 16th, when LVC travels to Owings Mills, Md. to battle Stevenson at 7 p.m.
