How It Happened
CLERMONT, Fla. – Lebanon Valley settled for a split on its final day of its 2019 spring break trip to Florida. The Dutchmen cruised to a 7-1 victory over Finlandia (Mich.) before falling to Wartburg 8-1 in the finale. LVC will head north with a 4-6 record in the Sunshine State, including winners in three of their last four.
Against the Lions of Finlandia, the Dutchmen opened up a 3-0 advantage in the top of the third, beginning when
Sarah Musselman reached on an error by the pitcher that allowed
Jen Kaufman to score. Next,
Robin Feaster smashed a double to right center for a pair of RBI to make it a 3-0 game. Finlandia got one back in the bottom of the third, but
Maddie Abbot pitched her way out of trouble and limited the Lions to just a run.
LVC put away Finlandia for good in the top of the fifth with four more runs. Feaster reached on an error that plated
Rylee Shockley, then
Alison Noga singled home Feaster, followed by
Jen Kaufman's RBI-single that plated
Kristi Langhans. Abbot took over from there and went the distance, as she allowed just one run over seven innings to earn the win inside the circle.
Inside the Numbers
- Abbot tossed all seven innings and scattered six hits while striking out six.

Kate Whelski and Langhans each recorded three hits.
- Kaufman added a pair of hits for the Dutchmen.
- As a team, LVC racked up 12 hits.

Against Wartburg, the Knights got on the board in the first, but LVC evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first off Feaster's RBI-single. In the third, however, Wartburg took a commanding 5-1 advantage and the Knights went on to tack on two more runs in the fourth. LVC was unable to solve Wartburg's Maddie Rog and eventually fell 8-1.
Inside the Numbers
- Whelski and Toth notched two hits apiece for LVC.
- Wartburg's Rog tossed a complete game and allowed one earned run with five K's.
Who's Next?
LVC will head north for Annville and returns to action on Saturday, March 16th when the Dutchmen open up MAC Commonwealth action in a doubleheader at Hood, with game one slated to begin at 1 p.m.
