How It Happened
FORT PIERCE, Fla. – Lebanon Valley suffered a narrow 7-6 setback at the hands of Monmouth College (Ill.) to wrap up 2019 spring break action in Florida. Despite the loss, the Flying Dutchmen will hit the road for Annville with a 7-2 spring-break record, their best start in recent memory.
In the bottom of the fifth after the Fighting Scots took a 3-2 advantage over LVC,
Nick O'Shea stepped up and ripped a two-RBI single to center field that scored
Josh Herring and
Josh Marcelli to give the lead back to the Dutchmen at 4-3. Later in the frame,
Bryan Towers singled home
TJ Holdredge and LVC took a 5-3 advantage into the sixth. After Monmouth was unable to score in the top of the inning, the Dutchmen added a sixth run in the bottom of the inning thanks to Herring's sacrifice fly.
In the seventh inning, however, the Fighting Scots stood true to their name and fought back with three runs to even the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the seventh, O'Shea led off with a single and later, Towers singled down the left field line, bringing pinch runner
Ethan Hurd to second, but the Dutchmen came up empty and the game remained tied at 6-6.
Monmouth took the lead for good in the top of the eighth after Starkey reached on a throwing error that plated Witty. LVC again threatened in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to even the game and the Dutchmen were eventually edged 7-6.

- Eight Dutchmen had two hits this afternoon, including Towers,
Joey Wrabel, DeClerico, Marcelli, Herring, Holdredge, O'Shea, and
Josh Willey.

Kyle Kingsbury got the start on the bump but didn't factor into the decision. He went five innings and allowed three earned runs and struck out five.
- For the Fighting Scots, Harry Sanchez led the offense by going 4-for-4 with a game-high three RBI.
Who's Next?
LVC heads back to Annville and is scheduled to host Penn State Hazleton on Wednesday, March 13 at 3:30 p.m. at McGill Field.
