How It Happened
GRANTHAM, Pa. – In Lebanon Valley's opening game of its doubleheader at Messiah College, the Flying Dutchmen scored seven runs in the top of the second and held on late for the 9-6 victory over the Falcons.
With LVC down 1-0 in the top of the second,
Michael Leri started things off with a single to right field that scored
TJ Holdredge. Next,
Josh Willey doubled down the left field line to plate
Ethan Hurd and put the Dutchmen ahead 2-1. Later in the frame, with the bases loaded, the MAC Commonwealth's RBI leader,
Josh Herring, added to his total with a three-RBI double down the left field line that increased LVC's advantage to 5-1. The Dutchmen were done in what proved to be a game-turning inning, as
Chris DeClerico doubled home Herring, followed by Holdredge's RBI-single to center to score DeClerico.
In the bottom of the second, the Falcons came to within four at 7-3, but in the top of the fourth, LVC got a few back when
Josh Marcelli reached on an error that scored Holdredge and DeClerico, making it 9-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Messiah threatened and came to within three, but LVC was able to limit the damage and came away with the 9-6 win.
Inside the Numbers
- Holdredge finished the game 4-for-4 with two runs scored.
- Leri went 2-for-4 at the dish.
- Herring was 1-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.

Brenden Ward picked up his fourth win of the season after tossing 6.1 innings and allowing four earned runs to go along with three strikeouts.
- Trent Culver paced the Falcons' offense and went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

How It Happened
In game two of today's twinbill, Messiah jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 15-4 victory over LVC. After today's split, LVC now sits at 11-10, 4-5 MAC Commonwealth, while the Falcons moved to 6-13, 1-8 MAC Commonwealth.
Herring got the Dutchmen on the board early with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first, but the home team answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame to go up 4-0. Messiah added to its advantage in the bottom of the second with five more runs to go up 9-1, but the Dutchmen got two back in the top of the third off
Joey Wrabel's sacrifice fly and
Luke Blair's bases-loaded walk.
Then, in the fifth, Blair launched a solo home run to right field. The Falcons, though, crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the fourth and four more times in the bottom of the fifth and went on to win 15-4.

Bryan Towers went 2-for-4 at the dish with two runs scored.
- Holdredge added two more hits in game two.
- Blair had a team-high two RBI.
