How It Happened
READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley bested the Alvernia Golden Wolves 14-6 in Wednesday night's men's lacrosse Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth opener. The Dutchmen won their third straight and moved to 4-5, 1-0 MACC, while the Wolves dropped to 4-6, 0-1 MACC.
Kevin Beaver set the tone of the game early, scoring an unassisted goal just eight seconds in to play.
Evan Crawford put Lebanon Valley up by two after he found the back of the next with 9:15 left in the first quarter. Alvernia was quick to answer back 31 seconds later and scored its first of the game, but LVC scored two more with one coming from Beaver and the other, an unassisted goal, from
Trevor Holak. The Dutchmen entered into the second quarter up 4-2. LVC had a strong second quarter and scored three more, including one from Crawford,
Evan Federowicz, and
Josh Croyle, while keeping Alvernia at bay.
At the start of the second half, Lebanon Valley went on another three goal run and led 10-2.
With 2:29 to go in the third quarter, the Wolves were able to get past the Dutchmen and found the back of the net and trailed by seven. Alvernia opened up the final quarter and scored 12 seconds into play. LVC, however, went on another three point run and led 13-4. The Golden Wolves tried to stay in the game and scored two more goals, but that wasn't enough and the Dutchmen went on to win the first conference game of the season 14-6.
