How It Happened
READING, Pa. – In a wild opening game of a doubleheader with MAC Commonwealth foe Alvernia, Lebanon Valley suffered a 17-12 setback on Saturday afternoon.
The Flying Dutchmen began the game on fire, plating an impressive eight runs after batting around in the top of the first.
Josh Marcelli's single to left began the scoring, followed by
Joey Wrabel's walk with the bases loaded.
Ethan Hurd then hit a two-RBI single to center field, followed by
Michael Leri's double to left center to make it 5-0.
Luke Blair then doubled home Leri, followed by
Bryan Towers' second hit of the inning, this time a triple to left that scored Blair.
Josh Herring's RBI-single then knocked out Golden Wolves' starting pitcher Zack Landy.
Alvernia answered with three runs in the bottom of the first, followed by three more in the bottom of the second to come to within two of LVC at 8-6. In the top of the third, the Dutchmen's offense continued to click as Hurd scored on a balk, followed by a Leri run via a wild pitch. Herring then reached on a fielding error to increase LVC's advantage to 11-6. The Golden Wolves continued to hang around, though, and posted three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 11-9.
In the bottom of the fifth, Alvernia took the lead with two runs, but Wrabel homered in the top of the sixth to even the game at 12-12. The Dutchmen couldn't hold off the Golden Wolves' potent offense, however, as the home team scored five times in the bottom of the sixth and held on in the top of the seventh for the wild 17-12 win.
Inside the Numbers
- Herring finished game one going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
- Towers led the offense with three hits and two runs scored.
- Marcelli, Hurd, and Blair added two hits apiece.
- The Golden Wolves led in total hits at 17-14.
- Alvernia's Nathan Sides had a game-high four hits, four runs scored, and three RBI.
- The Golden Wolves' Franco Esposito recorded four RBI.
- Alvernia's Kyle Gaynor got the win after throwing the final two innings.

How It Happened
In game two of this afternoon's twinbill, LVC scored four late runs, but it wasn't enough, as Alvernia came away with the 6-3 win. The Dutchmen now sit at 9-6, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth, while the Golden Wolves jumped to 12-5, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth.
Alvernia struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, followed by two more in the bottom of the fifth to go up 4-0. LVC finally put some runs on the board in the top of the sixth when
Chris DeClerico doubled down the left field line to score Towers, followed by
TJ Holdredge's sac-fly that scored Wrabel.
The Golden Wolves then answered with another pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-2, but LVC made things interesting in the top of the seventh. Towers brought the Dutchmen to within three with a single to right, followed by DeClerico's fielder's choice that plated
Seiler Edwards. LVC had the tying run on base, but was unable to even the game and fell 6-4.

- DeClerico finished with a pair of hits.
- Towers, Holdredge, Herring, and
Tanner Rock registered one hit apiece.

Kyle Kingsbury got the start on the bump but was charged with the loss. He threw five innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out five.
- Alvernia's Nicholas Marotta earned the win after tossing six innings and allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts.

LVC and Alvernia will finish off their regular-season series tomorrow at noon when the Golden Wolves come to Annville for a 12 p.m. game.
