How It Happened
Lebanon Valley dropped a tight outing to Goucher by the slimmest of margins, falling 11-10 at a snowy Arnold Field on Saturday afternoon, March 2.

The Flying Dutchmen (0-3) were led by hat tricks from Kevin Beaver and Matt Torrence, while Max Warmingham added a pair of assists. Cam Epple made 12 saves in goal, while Torrence added nine ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The contest was a back-and-forth affair, with LVC getting on the board first thanks to a Beaver goal six minutes into the game. From there, the Gophers (1-3) outscored the home team 5-2 to end the opening quarter. Torrence did his part to keep things close, scoring a pair of markers in the final 4:26 of the first period.

LVC drew even at 5-5 early in the second quarter thanks to back-to-back scores by Evan Crawford and Michael Fisher. From there, however, Goucher netted three of the game's next four goals to take an 8-6 advantage into halftime.

The visitors kept the pressure on by scoring the first goal of the second half but Warmingham and Josh Croyle kept Lebanon Valley in it thanks to consecutive markers midway through the third quarter. After Matt Woodson added a tally with 8:04 left in the third period, the Dutchmen faced a 10-8 deficit heading into the final 15 minutes.

Beaver quickly pulled his team to within one with his third goal of the game with 12:47 left to play but the LVC offense struggled to convert for much of the final quarter. After Goucher tacked on its 11th goal with six minutes remaining, Torrence gave the home team life with a snipe with just 25 seconds left.

The Dutchmen won the ensuing face-off and burned a timeout with 10 seconds remaining but Crawford's last-ditch effort came up short thanks to a solid play by the Gopher defense, allowing Goucher to escape with the slimmest of victories.
