How It Happened
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley netted six goals in the second quarter and went on to hold off King's by a 12-8 score on Friday night in non-conference men's lacrosse action. The Dutchmen won their second straight and jumped to 2-4, while the Monarchs stayed winless and fell to 0-6.
Tonight's game was delayed 45 minutes due to lightning in the area.
King's was the first to score with 8:53 left in the opening quarter, but LVC answered with back-tob-ack goals from
Joe Olives and
Matt Torrence to take a 2-1 lead with 6:37 remaining in the first. The Monarchs' Zach Anderson tied things up just 38 seconds later with a man-up goal, but the Dutchmen again had answers, beginning with
Trevor Holak's unassisted tally that put LVC back up by one at 3-2.
Then, to begin the second quarter,
Josh Croyle found the back of the net from Olives 23 seconds into the period to make it a 4-2 game. Later in the second, King's came to within a goal, but
Max Warmingham,
Evan Crawford, and Croyle each scored in the span of less than three minutes to put the Dutchmen ahead 8-4. The Monarchs came to within three at 8-5, but Torrence scored with less than a second left to play to give the home team a 9-5 lead heading into halftime.
After the first two quarters featured 14 total goals, it was a different story in the final two quarters as both defenses locked down, preventing as many scoring chances as the first. Gabe Vansuch brought the visitors to within three with 8:49 left in the third, but Croyle put LVC back up by four at 10-6 just over a minute later. Then, in the fourth, King's threatened again and Charlie Alessi's score brought the Monarchs to within two at 10-8, however Crawford put the Dutchmen up by three with 5:56 to go, then Croyle put the game out of reach with a goal at 4:39 to give LVC a 12-8 lead, which it held on to for the remainder of the contest.
Inside the Numbers
- Croyle finished with a game-high six points (four goals, two assists) and scooped up a ground ball and added a caused turnover.
- Torrence stuffed the stat sheet, scoring two goals and adding an assist for three points, while picking up five ground balls and causing three turnovers.
- Crawford added two goals for LVC.
- Beaver recorded a goal and an assist on nine shots.
- Olives registered a team-high three assists and added a ground ball and caused turnover.

Cam Epple earned the victory in net and made 20 saves. The senior added five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Courtland Hackel won 11 faceoffs and scooped up five ground balls.

- LVC outshot King's 39-33, however the Monarchs held the edge in shots on goal at 28-24.
- The Dutchmen went 17-for-24 on clears and King's was 16-for-25.

LVC's three-game homestand continues Monday when the Dutchmen welcome Whittier College (Calif.) to Arnold Field for a 3:30 p.m. tilt.
